LuxuryAuthenticationLVChanel
A comprehensive guide for buyers to identify counterfeit luxury goods and protect your investment.
The luxury resale market is one of the most profitable categories in the Philippines, but also the riskiest due to counterfeits. Here's how to protect yourself.
The Golden Rule: Authentication First
Never buy luxury goods without proper authentication. On Second Story, all luxury sellers must submit authentication certificates for items above ₱20,000.
Louis Vuitton — Key Checks
- 1.Date code: Every authentic LV piece has a date code stamped inside. The format changed multiple times. Know your era.
- 2.Stitching: Authentic LV uses 5-6 stitches per cm consistently. Fakes are uneven.
- 3.Hardware: Authentic brass hardware is heavy and solid. Cheap alloy = fake.
- 4.Canvas texture: The monogram canvas should be stiff and slightly rough. Soft and glossy = red flag.
Chanel — Key Checks
- 1.Serial sticker: Located inside on a white holographic sticker. Should be clear and crisp.
- 2.Chain weight: Real Chanel chains are heavy gold-plated brass.
- 3.CC lock: The CC logo should be perfectly aligned.
When in Doubt, Reject
If a deal seems too good to be true, it is. The risk of buying a ₱45,000 fake LV is far greater than missing a deal.
